April 2010 Newsletter

Dear Members,

I hope you are all enjoying this spell of lovely weather and that it will continue now until the Summer takes over.

The NHOS had a small display at Thames Valley Show at Hare Hatch on April 10th. Many thanks to Gill and Lawrence for their plants and help and also to Sheila for donating her range of cut Cymbidiums. Lawrence won a rosette for his Phalaenopsis, which goes to prove that no display is too small.

The free entry day to RHS gardens at Wisley on the 24th April was well attended and I am sure that everyone had a marvellous day as the weather could not have been better.

The following were all awarded to David Martin, who was exhibiting at the OSGB Event, which was held in the Tropical Greenhouse on the same day.
CLASS   5:   Cymbidium Erythraeum : 1ST
CLASS 15:   Phalaenopsis Stuartiania : 2ND
CLASS 30:   An arrangement of 3 Phals: 1ST

The BOC Congress is to be held at Peterborough, East of England Showground, between Friday 18th- Sunday 20th June 2010. If anyone wants any information re this event, please contact me.

The NHOS would like to welcome Maureen Cole to our membership, who used to belong to the society and has now rejoined.

The next meeting will be on Sunday 16th May, when Roy Smith will be talking about Phalaenopsis.

There will be a Members' Sales Table at this meeting.Plants can be of any variety, not just orchids.

Donations to the Raffle will be much appreciated also.
